WHO I AM

Board Certified Lactation Consultant

Mother using breast pump during lactation consultation with IBCLC support

My life long passion for helping others started 20 years ago when I became a Nurse .  Spending the last 10 years of my nursing career focused on pediatric emergency medicine, I quickly learned and have seen the struggles mothers have when trying to breastfeed or provide human milk for their babies. I have also seen first hand the lack of support and services for lactating mothers.  These observations caused me concern and inspired me!  That is when I decided to advance my career and become an IBCLC.
I have always been passionate about breastfeeding long before I became a mother. With the birth of my first son, on his first latch I knew something wasn't right.  My Nurse hat instantly went on and I began to assess his oral/motor function and latch. In this moment I realized our breastfeeding journey was not going to be an easy one. I knew in order for our breastfeeding  journey to be successful, I was going to need the support of an IBCLC as well as many other professionals. With my passion came great struggle. There was no greater truth to the saying “It takes a village.“

As a Registered Nurse and IBCLC I understand the weight and frustration of needing help but not knowing where to turn to first.  My goal is simple: give my clients the tools, education, and resources they need to succeed with their human milk feeding goals.  Together we will identify the cause of the problems, create a plan that’s personalized and effective in meeting your goals.

Who Am I : About

Kristin, Wantagh

"April is extremely knowledgeable, professional, and passionate about what she does. She immediately made me feel at ease and answered the endless number of questions I had. She was positive, encouraging and offered many solutions when I was discouraged and unsure. I would recommend April to anyone who is unsure of what to do, hesitant, discouraged, or just needs someone to be on their side through the beginning steps on their journey. I cannot thank her enough for how she allowed me to be comfortable with being a new mom and not feeling silly for asking my questions. Thank you April!"
